Why should I join the Union?
Only full AFSCME Local 4001 members can:
Ø Vote in Local elections and on Local Issues.
Ø Serve on Labor/Management Committees at all levels and/or College committees involved in making decisions
affecting the workplace representing AFSCME.
Ø Be elected and serve as a campus steward.
Ø Run for Local or Council 5 offices.
Ø Be elected to represent Local 4001 at AFSCME Council 5, AFSCME International and AFL-CIO Conventions.
Ø Vote to accept or strike on contracts.
Ø Submit Contract Proposals.
Ø Be elected to Contract Negotiations Assembly and the Master Bargaining Committee.
Ø Be eligible to apply for AFSCME educational scholarships at the Local 4001, Council 5, and International level.
Ø Participate in AFSCME "PEOPLE" (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality), the political action committee for AFSCME
