June 2018 Letter from President Hoffman

June 2018 Letter to Local 4001

Sisters and Brothers:

I hope everyone is having a relaxing summer and you can take time and re-energize yourself.

I have waited to send this out in the hopes that there would be some/any news to share about the Janus attack on our Union.  We are still in the “wait and see” mode but recent rulings from the court do not look good.  As soon as any information is received, I will make sure to share it with you.

I am happy to share that Council 5 has endorsed Erin Murphy to be Minnesota’s next Governor. Erin has a long history of being an advocate for working people. She was the leader of the MN Nurses Association before being elected to the MN House. She will be an excellent advocate for all of us.

One last thing that I want to share with you is, staff from Council 5, as well as Members out on lost time, will be visiting our campuses in the coming weeks to talk to us. As much as they try to let campus stewards know ahead of time that they are coming, sometimes timing just does not allow this. Please, if possible, take time to speak with them. They are allowed to talk to you at your work areas. If you are busy just let them know and they will try to come back at a better time. Do not be offended that they are visiting; it is part of their job.

In solidarity,
Joel Hoffman, President
